Vitae
Don Bruce is an Associate Professor in the
Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER) and the Department of Economics
at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He is currently serving as
Graduate Director in the Department of Economics. Dr. Bruce holds a B.A.
with honors in economics from Drew University and an M.A. and Ph.D. in economics
from Syracuse University. He specializes in policy research, focusing
primarily on the economic and behavioral effects of tax policies. He has
published numerous articles in academic journals and has presented his work at
several professional meetings, the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science,
and Transportation, and the President’s Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform.
His work in CBER includes an ongoing multi-year evaluation of Tennessee’s
welfare program, Families First and state tax revenue forecasts. His
academic research has explored such things as the effects of federal and state
tax policies on entrepreneurial activity, the impact of electronic commerce on
state and local sales tax collections, and the sources of state tax revenue
fluctuations. Dr. Bruce is a member of the National Tax Association and
the American, Southern, and Western Economic Associations.
