Tennessee State Data Center

The State Data Center (SDC) program is a state/Census Bureau cooperative program that disseminates census and other data to the public through a network of over 1,800 state and local agencies, libraries, universities, chambers of commerce, and others. Since 1978, the U.S. Bureau of the Census has provided state data centers with a wide range of census information and with technical assistance and training necessary to access the data.

Currently, the Center for Business and Economic Research serves as the lead agency for this program in Tennessee. The remainder of the Tennessee SDC is comprised of  19 affiliates statewide. The goal of the Tennessee SDC is to provide timely demographic and economic data to the citizens, businesses, and government agencies of Tennessee.

Most Census Bureau data are available through the Bureau's Internet site, http://www.census.gov. The Bureau also maintains an interactive site, the American Factfinder.   With this on-line access tool, data from the decennial census files, the American Community Survey, etc. may be accessed.

Another valuable data resource from the Census Bureau is the U.S. Statistical Abstract.  The Abstract serves as a guide to sources of data from the Census Bureau, as well as other Federal agencies and private organizations.
